Finding an EHR that fits all the needs of a practice isn’t always a quick process. With so many different needs for each provider, it can be difficult to find something that will benefit the practice. The important part is to do your due diligence and ensure that you are making the right decision. That is what Coastal Pediatrics, a pediatrics practice based in Conway, SC, found out in the years long search for the perfect system that suited the needs of all providers at the practice.
Bobbie Ard knew what she was looking for in a system that work best for the pediatrics practice. As Practice Manager with 31 years’ experience as a nurse, she knew that finding a system more modern than the one the practice was currently using would make a big difference in being able to treat their patients and run the practice more efficiently. “The doctors told me I had to go looking and told me what they wanted,” she explained, “I went to four different conferences to search.” They wanted an EHR without templates and could work with pediatric medications and code those visits properly. As Practice Manager, Bobbie attended an intense two-week training with the training specialists to ensure that she knew the system inside and out. eMDs, a brand of CompuGroup Medical also sent an on-site trainer who watched how the practice worked and helped tailor the system specifically to their needs. “To me, it was wonderful,” Bobbie said, “we were not left alone and any time I had something wrong, someone helped me.” She knew that if there was an issue that the support team would get back to her within a day and help solve the problem.
One of the best parts about CGM APRIMA for her specifically is the practice management (PM) software. “It has great reports, and I like the system because it tells me if our collections are down or if claims aren’t going out as they should,” explained Bobbie. Having those reports enables her to stay on top of everything in the practice. The solution enables them to collect copays from the front window and provides greater insight into the claim process to ensure the practice gets paid properly in a timely fashion. “It keeps our cashflow steady. We don’t have a whole lot of revenue outstanding.” The PM system also includes an audit trail to help keep track of who did what within the system to help resolve any issues as they arise.
“We would not be able to practice the way we do today without CGM APRIMA,” said Bobbie.
