DokuAssistant: When AI Listens So Doctors Can Truly Care

March 3, 2026

In every medical consultation, there is a moment when the doctor turns from the patient to the keyboard. A pause. A shift of attention. A few seconds in which eye contact is lost so that documentation can begin.

DokuAssistant was built to change that.

Let`s find out more about DokuAssistant

What DokuAssistant Does

DokuAssistant provides AI-driven medical documentation by capturing the doctor–patient conversation and generating a structured medical summary with diagnoses, therapy, medication history, and all key clinical details. It saves physicians time by removing the need for manual note-taking and allowing them to stay fully focused on the patient, while still giving them full control to edit the summary afterward. The solution is already integrated into major CGM platforms, including Turbomed, Reha, Albis, and the G3 Praxis ecosystem; and currently supports German, French, and Italian, with further market expansion underway.

Today, the product is live in Germany, France, and Italy, with approximately 800 active users, most of them in Germany, where the journey began. And this is only the beginning.

From Marathon Start to Scalable Success

The story of DokuAssistant did not start easy.

The project began with a medical documentation application originally developed by another team using Angular and a Node.js backend. After taking over the product, the team delivered one of the earliest major milestones: a complete backend migration from Node.js to Kotlin. This transition, completed in record time, resulted in a far more robust, scalable, and extensible architecture. It was an intense period in which the backend developers achieved what initially seemed nearly impossible - not only rewriting the entire backend, but first having to deeply understand the existing product, its business logic, the underlying tools, and the services it relied on.

Then came the frontend transformation.

A completely new application design. Major changes to the UI library, layout structure, and interaction patterns - essentially a 180-degree shift. All under significant time pressure, with one clear objective: delivering a fully refreshed and stable version in time for DMEA 2025 in Germany.

In parallel, the infrastructure had to evolve just as fast. Environments were rebuilt and optimized in record time to support the new architecture and ambitious release timeline.

It truly felt like a marathon run at sprint speed. And the team crossed the finish line together.

Today, the focus is on continuous improvement: optimizing the user experience, ensuring the highest quality of medical information, expanding AI-driven prompts for different specialties (from general practitioners to psychotherapists and pediatricians), extending language support, integrating with more CGM platforms, and adding competitive features that deliver real value to clinicians across regions.

Technology with Purpose

Behind the scenes, DokuAssistant is powered by a modern and carefully designed tech stack:

Frontend

  • Angular 17 & Angular Material
  • CGM ID for authentication
  • FullStory & Usercentrics for tracking and compliance

Backend

  • Kotlin with Spring Framework
  • PostgreSQL & Redis
  • Liquibase for database migrations
  • RabbitMQ & Azure Service Bus

AI Capabilities

  • Azure Cognitive Services Speech with a custom German medical speech model
  • Azure ChatGPT 4.1 integration for intelligent backend features

For the team, working so closely with AI is both professionally exciting and a constant source of inside jokes. When your product “listens” and “writes,” humor becomes part of daily stand-ups.

The People Behind DokuAssistant

What truly makes DokuAssistant special is not only the architecture or the AI models. It’s the people building it. Let`s meet them all.

Georgiana Andrieș – Frontend Developer & Team Lead

Georgiana completes 5 years at CGM this year. She genuinely enjoys what she does, including her role as team lead and all the responsibilities that came with it. In her free time, she likes going out with friends, playing board games, cooking, and during winter, snowboarding.

Within the team, she tries to be helpful and supportive, both on the frontend side and in her role as team lead, and to stay approachable and “cool” even when she has to insist on administrative things. (Don’t hate her, guys!)

Before having the opportunity to become the team lead of this team, the team had Claudiu Gurița as team lead - someone she truly appreciates and respects. He is an excellent backend developer with broad expertise, including strong knowledge on the QA side, and he also discovered a leadership side that suits him extremely well. He did a great job in this role, which led to him being offered the opportunity to become Interim VP at CGM. When he moved into this role, she took over his responsibilities within the team.

Read here the interview with Georgiana and her cool story within CGM.

Carmen Ioniță – Backend Developer

Carmen is one of the backend developers and has been part of CGM since June 2021. She says about herself that she is passionate about sports, cooking, and reading books about nutrition. In her free time, she loves spending time with her two sons and going to the gym, staying active and maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

From the team’s perspective, Carmen is someone who constantly wants to grow. Most of the time, if you don’t find her fully focused on her code and doing her best to deliver a task, you’ll probably find her joking, laughing with colleagues, or talking about nutrition. She creates a very pleasant atmosphere in the team, while also being a strong and reliable developer.

Nina Smoleanu – Manual QA

Nina has 4 years at CGM, and despite having many years of experience in the workforce, she says this is the place where she has felt the best so far. She describes herself as someone who gets fully involved in everything she does. Being a very practical person, she doesn’t like wasting time or energy on unnecessary things and will always choose something practical over something just nice-looking.

At the moment, most of her free time is dedicated to her 2-year-old niece. She’s a water sign so she loves water, sunbathing and relaxing, although she also goes hiking – sometimes more out of a sense of responsibility than pure enthusiasm.

Ștefan Camarasu – Frontend Developer

Ștefan has been with CGM for about 2 and a half years and is a frontend developer with experience in multiple web technologies. He has a particular enthusiasm for crypto, automation, and IoT.

His hobbies include countryside bio farming, loud music, and retro cars. In the team, he’s the kind of person you’ll usually find researching new things, new technologies, and interesting ideas, always curious and eager to learn.

Valentin Baciu – Backend Developer

Valentin joined the team about 6-7 months ago. He is a software engineer with strong expertise in the Java ecosystem and is currently working on AI-powered systems. He’s passionate about deeply understanding how software systems work and genuinely enjoys sharing that knowledge with others.

Outside of work, he likes playing chess with his kids and bike riding. From the very beginning, his seniority was noticeable. He was extremely eager to understand the project quickly, get hands-on, help others, and he even got involved in CGM events within his first months. His ability to clearly explain complex technical topics makes a real difference.

Georgiana Ciubotariu – Frontend Developer

Georgiana started her career at CGM as a mentee and has been steadily growing as a developer ever since. She’s driven by curiosity and a strong desire to understand how things work, and beyond her day-to-day frontend tasks, she’s also passionate about game development, where she experiments with building her own games.

She’s highly autonomous and remains focused even during challenging or chaotic periods. She consistently delivers on what she takes ownership of and is a key person in the team, both technically and socially. Funny, supportive, and proactive, she also helps strengthen team cohesion. In her free time, she enjoys playing video games and traveling.

Denis Crusos – Backend Developer

Denis has been with CGM for around 5 years and is a backend developer who is genuinely pleasant to work with. He’s humorous, relaxed, and somehow never seems stressed. You always know he will finish what he commits to, and he does so calmly and reliably.

He is very direct and honest, which is highly appreciated. Technically, he’s a strong senior developer, and he keeps a healthy boundary between work and personal life. When it’s 4 PM, he’s out - because he cares about his personal time, but he’s always there to help outside working hours if something important and planned comes up.

Denis says about himself that he is passionate about AI and makes a constant effort to stay up to date with the latest news and developments in this area. In his free time, he enjoys playing PC games, watching anime, and following TV series.

Alexandru Dieaconu – QA Automation

Alexandru has been with CGM for 5 years and is the QA automation engineer, an outstanding professional who consistently delivers high-quality work. He’s very autonomous, dependable, and always ready to help - both on automation and manual testing when needed, especially during stressful periods like long regressions or complex features.

He likes to understand how things work and why they are built in a certain way, always asking questions and looking for explanations, not just results. Outside of work, he spends most of his time with his two children. When he finds some free time, he enjoys technology in general, computer games, chess, traveling, and reading.

Cătălin Damian – Manual QA

Cătălin has been part of CGM for about 4 and a half years and is currently a manual QA who, under Alex’s guidance, has started learning automation. He’s a balanced, calm person who handles stress well and is always a solid support for the team.

He’s cheerful, easy to talk to, and a reliable tester. In his free time, he enjoys crafting technical projects around the house, riding his motorcycle, traveling, and, during colder days, playing games on PlayStation or Xbox. He also likes movies, music, socializing, and board games.

Alexandra Darie – Product Owner

Alexandra is the newest member of the team - not to CGM, as she’s been here for almost 8 years in total, with only a 2-year break - but new to this team. She fit in almost instantly.

She’s very well organized, manages stress in a healthy way, and is decisive. She knows how to communicate effectively with stakeholders about the team and its tasks.

She enjoys movies and TV series, likes board games and spending time in nature, and goes hiking whenever she can.

Claudiu Guriță – Backend Developer & Former Team Lead

Claudiu Guriță previously led the team before stepping into the role of Interim VP at CGM. He is an excellent backend developer with broad expertise, including strong knowledge on the QA side. During his time as team lead, he demonstrated a leadership style that combined technical excellence with strategic thinking.

His contribution laid a solid foundation for what DokuAssistant has become today. The trust he built, the standards he set, and the opportunities he created continue to shape the team’s direction and culture.

What Brings Them Together

The beginning of the project - intense, technical, high-pressure - created trust fast. Complex migrations, tight deadlines, ambitious goals. Communication had to be clear. Collaboration had to be real.

Today, the Romania team works in a structured way and consistently delivers powerful demos with exciting features. There’s shared pride in what they build.

But beyond code, what defines them is the vibe: coffee breaks filled with laughter, inside jokes about AI “behaving,” after-lunch conversations while fighting the food coma, and the kind of trust that makes work enjoyable.

If DokuAssistant Were a 10-Year Anniversary Cake…

It would be layered.

A solid chocolate base representing the strong backend foundation.
Fresh, lighter fruit layers symbolizing the creativity of the frontend team.
Carefully balanced textures ensured by QA.
And a clean, elegant finish reflecting quality, teamwork, and the steady guidance of the Product Owner.

Because just like a great cake, DokuAssistant is built with care, precision, and a lot of heart.

And This Is Only the Beginning

There is something deeply meaningful about building a product like DokuAssistant.

It’s not just about AI models, speech recognition, Kotlin migrations, or Angular upgrades. It’s about impact. It’s about knowing that somewhere in Germany, France, or Italy, a doctor is able to look a patient in the eyes a few seconds longer because our application is quietly doing the documentation in the background. It’s about giving time back to healthcare professionals — and time, in medicine, is everything.

We are proud of the technology.
We are proud of the architecture.
We are proud of the milestones that once seemed almost impossible.

But more than anything, we are proud of the people.

Because great products are not built by code alone. They are built by curious minds, calm problem-solvers, structured thinkers, relentless learners, patient testers, empathetic leaders, and colleagues who laugh together during coffee breaks after delivering something extraordinary.

DokuAssistant is growing because the people behind it are growing.
And they are growing because CGM gives them the space, trust, and challenges to do so.

There is something powerful about working in a place where AI is not a buzzword, but a daily tool. Where complex migrations turn into shared victories. Where demos are celebrated. Where food comas are fought collectively. Where ambition and humor coexist.

We know we are building something meaningful.
And we know we are building it with the right people.

This is just one of the many stories inside CGM.
