More Time for Patients: Artificial Intelligence to Help Physicians with Their Administrative Tasks

Prague, 3rd April 2017 - CompuGroup Medical (CGM) is introducing another tool to make physicians‘ work easier and more efficient. The company will use HarveyX analytical software from Comimpex Ltd Group product portfolio build on the IBMA Watson artificial intelligence platform. The software will help physicians to deal with the ever growing volumes of health care related administrative tasks giving them more time for what matters most – patient care.

Increasing volumes of mandatory medical paperwork are becoming the reality of the Czech health care system. Physicians are often flooded by growing numbers of administrative tasks, which take the time and energy that could be otherwise dedicated to their patients. That is why CompuGroup Medical introduces another solution now using artificial intelligence to make these tasks easier to carry out for the physicians. The company builds on its previous activities in this field pursuing its long-term vision of a fully digitalized health care system ensuring safe storage of structured data readily available to all authorized personnel.

Communication and exchange of data concerning medical condition are currently primarily based on written texts exchanged in electronic form, i.e. medical examination reports. Individuals involved in the medical treatment process such as physicians, medical specialists, hospitals, health insurance companies and many others have to handle large volumes of documents while taking care of the patient‘s health. Physicians must also read all these documents, identify the important information about the patient‘s condition, copy it in their files or enter the information into specialized tools to make it available for further use, and also diagnose the patient based on the data contained in the documents. Artificial intelligence can take care of this particular process of the initial text analysis and allocating meaning to individual elements. The software can understand written text in the same way as humans, chooses information that is important for the physician, finds links and turns long texts into structured sets of data. If a physician uses also a specialised medical software, the artificial intelligence is even able to copy the data into the physician‘s files, or enter the data in the correct fields of specialized tools supporting medical treatment.

„Non-structured texts in patients‘ files, their duplicity and necessity to manually search for data concerning medical condition of a patient delay the work of health care professionals. When using the artificial intelligence, physicians will remove part of the mandatory administrative tasks burden and will have more time to care about patient‘s health,“ explains Vladimír Přikryl , CEO of CompuGroup Medical Czech Republic, and he adds: „The structured information can also be further used in an efficient way for example to generate statistics, reports or health care cost reports for insurance companies, as the artificial intelligence feature uploads also data that physicians only have time to read without processing it further in the medical software.“

CGM will launch the first components equipped with the artificial intelligence features HarveyX this June. At the moment, physicians are being offered participation in this pilot project. Other medical professionals who are interested can also take part after contacting CompuGroup Medical Czech Republic.
