The number of diabetics in the Czech Republic is constantly rising. Special medical modules may help doctors with prevention, diagnosis and effective treatment

Prague, 15 December 2015 - There were 862,000 patients treated with diabetes in the Czech Republic in 2013, which means an increase of 20,000 diabetics over the previous year. Diabetes along with high blood pressure represent a serious social problem in the recent years. The rising incidence of these diseases and in particular the subsequent complications increase the cost, complexity and difficulty of treatment. Current medical modules may thanks to its specialization help doctors with prevention, diagnosis and effective treatment of these diseases

Hypertension and diabetes mellitus belong, together with smoking, dyslipidemia, and obesity among some of the most important risk factors for stroke, coronary heart disease and other manifestations of atherosclerosis. Depending on type of disease also practitioners treat the patients in their offices. Among the tools that simplify active monitoring of people with risk factors, and draw attention to compliance with the procedures recommended by the Society of General Practice ČSL JEP belong medical information systems and its specially developed modules for diabetes and recently also for hypertension.

"The modules are able to search in the database of registered diabetic patients and classify them automatically into appropriate groups and save the doctor's time," says Jan Hlaváček, Director of the Ambulatory Information Systems Division of CompuGroup Medical, a leader in the domestic market in software solutions for practitioners, hospitals and laboratories. "Our module for general practitioners who treat patients with type 2 diabetes is already used by 400 doctors" says Jan Hlaváček.

The modules also monitor whether the medical examinations were complete and fully documented, minimizing thus the potential risks of reduction of reimbursement by health insurance companies. It also checks and monitors the values of key indicators over the time. "The aim of these modules is to give the practitioner a suitable tool to treat the patients in accordance with the best practices and effectively implement comprehensive periodic checks of dispensary patients," adds Hlaváček.
