Survey: Czechs do not want to wait at the doctor and often cannot reach them by phone

Prague, January 30th 2014 – Seven out of ten Czechs would appreciate if they could schedule the exact date and time of a visit at their physician. More than half of them complain, that they have to spend a lot of time in the waiting room. In addition, 86 percent of Czechs believe that they often visit their doctor uselessly. These are the results of a survey conducted by CompuGroup Medical, which was prepared by STEM/MARK on a sample of 511 respondents.

"The most popular form of communication with physicians is clearly a personal visit, preferred by eight out of ten Czechs. Second is a phone contact," explains Lenka Volfová, Head of Marketing at CompuGroup Medical Czech Republic, and adds: "The respondents, however, do not preclude email or online communication either."

Almost a third of Czechs complain that a doctor can communicate only in their office hours. Up to half of them consider the office hours to be too short. When they try to reach the doctor by phone, the majority (56 %) is not able to reach the doctor, and must call repeatedly. Seven of ten respondents think that they often visit their doctor uselessly.

"When communicating with the doctor, the protection of personal data is crucial for Czechs. They would appreciate online communication especially in contact with their GP. If they had the chance, most of respondents would use online tools for scheduling a visit at their doctor," comments Volfová. "The ability to see on-line the results of the examination is of interest to 62 % Czechs. Six out of ten would have used the online ordering to have prescribed medications that they use repeatedly," she adds. 44 % of people showed interest in the on-line medical consultation with a doctor, especially with a general practitioner or pediatrician.

The survey was conducted by STEM/MARK using an internet survey on a representative sample of the Czech population. 511 respondents were questioned.
