First eHealth connector receives approval for use in telematics infrastructure

The eHealth connector from CompuGroup Medical Deutschland AG (CGM) opens the door to new medical applications.

CompuGroup Medical Deutschland AG (CGM) is the first manufacturer to receive gematik's approval for the use of an eHealth connector, the KoCoBox MED, in telematics infrastructure (TI). For the first time in medical care, new eHealth applications, such as emergency data management (Notfalldatenmanagement, NFDM) and the electronic medication plan (Elektronischer Medikationsplan, eMP), can now be stored on the electronic health card (Elektronische Gesundheitskarte, eGK). With this approval, CGM once again confirms its responsibility as market leader and sets another important milestone in the digitization of the healthcare system.

The software upgrade, which turns the TI connector KoCoBox MED+ into an eHealth connector, was officially approved by gematik for testing in the run-up to the productive operation of the telematics infrastructure (TI). The eHealth connector of CompuGroup Medical Deutschland AG (CGM) opens the door for the new medical applications emergency data management (Notfalldatenmanagement, NFDM), electronic medication plan (Elektronischer Medikationsplan, eMP), qualified electronic signature (Qualifizierte elektronische Signatur, QES), and communication of service providers (Kommunikation Leistungserbringer, KOM-LE). These eHealth applications are the key to optimally supporting doctors, dentists, and psychotherapists as well as clinics and pharmacies in their daily work and to expanding connectivity in the healthcare sector.

"We are pleased that the KoCoBox MED+ has now been officially approved for the preparation of the productive operation of the telematics infrastructure. The next milestone has been reached," says Uwe Eibich, Manager of CompuGroup Medical Deutschland AG. "More than 55,000 facilities in which the KoCoBox MED+ is already in use today will soon be able to offer their patients the new medical applications. For example, the storage of personal emergency data on the eGK or the set-up and administration of an electronic medication plan. The practices can offer their patients real added value with this offer."

At the same time, the present approval is a signal for a timely start of the field tests to prove the above-mentioned applications. In a joint project of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (Kassenärztliche Vereinigung, KV) Westfalen-Lippe and CGM, emergency data management and the electronic medication plan of doctors, pharmacies, and patients are being tested in practice. There will be another field test for the KOM-LE application. The communication standard for the secure exchange of electronic documents is being tested in cooperation with the KV North Rhine, as well as with the additional Associations of Statutory Health Insurance Dentists (Kassenzahnärztliche Vereinigungen, KZV) of Berlin, North Rhine, Baden-Württemberg, and Bavaria. The extensive organizational and technical preparations for the two field tests have already been completed for some time.

All facilities that are already connected to the TI via the KoCoBox MED+ will receive the new functionalities for the start of the productive operation via a software upgrade. "We would like to make clear at this point that a hardware replacement is not necessary," explains Eibich. "The current KoCoBox MED+ users will thus be the first to use the new medical applications and will be able to benefit from the subsidies and additional fees provided for this purpose."
