Changes in the Laboratory Market: CompuGroup Medical (CGM) Networking Physicians and Laboratory Service Providers

- Consolidation and progressive privatization
- Search for stable IT-partners with international structures and solutions for the future
- Concerning lab solutions, CGM offers a powerful laboratory solution and international best practice coupled with networking with the outpatient sector.

Koblenz, August 16, 2012. The trend in the Laboratory market is clearly recognizable: the concentration process is in full swing creating new structures. This also holds true for ITvendors. With laboratory solutions in 20 countries, CompuGroup Medical possesses global knowledge of the industry for laboratories of all sizes.

Following the privatization of hospitals and the outsourcing of hospital laboratories, the laboratory business has been focusing on fewer and fewer suppliers. Currently in Germany, nearly 60% of private laboratories belong to large laboratory networks. Furthermore, the laboratory performance is becoming more and more technical on an international level. Causes for this are high levels of automation and mechanization, such as the introduction of chip technology or the POC analysis (Point of Care).

This development presents new challenges for the vendors. The systems must be programmed in multiple languages and must also do the international standards justice. It is no longer sufficient to further develop existing systems. Rather, solutions for internal and external networking and smart management tools which support the workflow must be made available. So far, the IT market focuses and operates only on a national level. Few IT vendors have international expertise and the necessary country-specific market knowledge.

One such vendor is CGM. As a world leader in eHealth, the company interacts with customers in 34 countries, including 1,500 laboratories with large instillation in 20 countries. The foundation consists of the lab solutions already successfully in use today. „In recent months, we have seen a pleasant increase in orders for the laboratory market, for example, in the emerging Russian market“, confirms Frank Gotthardt, Chief Executive Officer of CompuGroup Medical AG. This is also attributable to the considerable investments in product development, especially in the development of laboratory solutions.

CGM possesses the necessary performance and market knowledge necessary to implement international solutions according to customer specific requirements in a reasonable time frame. The systems and their components already cover the complete range of services in the laboratory. In addition, CGM focuses on interfaces, for example, the networking solution CGM LAB Connect which organizes the workflow in complex orders and in the transfer of laboratory results to a wide range of receivers.

“In CGM we have found a competent partner. CGM offers completely digitalized systems that create quick and accurate requests, good workflow at the laboratory and reliable notification of diagnosis results," says Geir Nordheim, Project Manager at Nye Ahus, rather enthusiastically. Nye Ahus, with its hospital in Norway, sets new standards with the aim of becoming the most modern hospital in Europe.
