Healthcare in Rhineland-Palatinate: Politics and Economics Must Pull Together
Prime Minister Malu Dreyer visits CompuGroup Medical AG

Koblenz – November 7, 2014: The Prime Minister of Rhineland-Palatinate, Malu Dreyer was a guest at CompuGroup Medical AG (CGM), a leading eHealth company worldwide. She was interested in solutions which would not only keep the medical treatment in Rhineland-Palatinate efficient, but would improve it.

During her visit to the CGM headquarters in Koblenz, she made it clear that the state government – also affected by the population structure and demographic changes in Rhineland-Palatinate – faces specific challenges for the further development of the medical and elderly care in the country. “The capabilities of modern IT applications are essential building blocks that can help us in implementing our program ‘Health and Elderly Care – 2020’ (‘Gesundheit und Pflege -2020’) in the future”, said Malu Dreyer.

The focus of the discussion was CGM’s solutions for networking all involved parties in the healthcare sector. The reason for this was the new law for improved medical treatment (“Versorgungsstärkungsgesetz”). Under the new law, a regulation will be put into effect where a discharge management system will be included in hospital treatment to support intersectoral treatment of insured patients in the transition from hospital treatment to external care. Here, case records become increasingly important. In this regard, the Prime Minister was informed of how a comprehensive implementation in Rhineland-Palatine would be possible according to CompuGroup Medical’s point of view.

Malu Dreyer was also very impressed with the philosophy behind CGM’s product ‘CGM LIFE’. With this solution, CGM not only supports integrated treatment across sectors, but also strengthens the participation of insured persons and patients. “Everyone agrees that medical data must first be assigned to the patient”, said Frank Gotthardt, Chief Executive Officer of CompuGroup Medical. “With CGM LIFE and our highly-secure electronic patient record, we make this possible and give individuals sovereignty over their health data so that they may make their medical data available to treating physicians at their own discretion. On the other hand, personal medical data is very confidential and must be strictly protected. Our security procedures for patient records and electronic case files not only meet the legal requirements for data protection, but go far beyond them”, said Frank Gotthardt enthusiastically.

Finally, the Prime Minister and CompuGroup Medical were on the same page regarding the topics of elderly care. “It is important that we organize elderly care in our country in such a way that these people can stay in their familiar home surroundings for as long as possible. For this reason, we would like to especially support the outpatient nurses and at the same time ensure optimal involvement of physicians in the processes with our IT solutions”, according to Frank Gotthardt.

At the end of the discussions, Malu Dreyer was informed about CGM’s occupational health strategy and visited the company’s health center. “I am both pleased and proud, that we not only have a world market leader in healthcare IT here in Rhineland-Palatinate, but also that this company offers highly innovative positions and progressive working conditions”, said Malu Dreyer.
